I am not into Surf style music in general, so when my friend told me about Daikaiju and I first looked them up, I was skeptical. However, upon seeing the band live in their hometown of Hunstville, I was completely blown away. Their energy, their talent and collective spirit while performing absolutely floored me. I would like to classify it more of speed metal with a surf twist because not all of their music sounds surf-ish. It really would make excellent video game or movie music. Some people would consider that “selling out”, but to me if the artist is not changing their music for the market, this is not selling out, but simply getting exposure. I’m sorry… but it also means getting paid. Many people think that musicians getting paid for what they do is a bad thing… like when “fans” download albums for free with no intention to EVER buy them, or they get upset when their favorite band has a single featured in a Honda commercial. If this applies to you, maybe you should ask yourself how you think these bands can continue to make music for a living if no one ever gives them a cent. ANYWAY… As I have slipped majorly off topic, and this is turning into a rant, all I have to say about Daikaiju is that they make incredible music, and if have the opportunity to see them live, DO IT …. and thank me later.
